Last night's gaming

Nine gamers last night, and a big pile of shrink wrapped new games from The Works' recent sale.

Table 1 (4 players):

Table 2 (5 players):
... of which only Seven Wonders is not a new game to us.

When playing Maori, we encountered a major error in the English translation of the rules. Thank heavens for smartphones. Here's the discussion on BoardGameGeek. If you play Maori, bear this in mind.

Last night's gaming - Wondering and Walking

Last night had an attendance of twelve.

Six people played The Walking Dead board game. Two early casualties in this game broke away to play Caylus Magna Carta.

Meanwhile two concurrent three-player games of Seven Wonders: Leaders were played.

Then the Seven Wonders players merged for a six player game.

There was time for three players to play Blue Moon City at the end, and a five player game of Nile.

Bargain gaming from Cadbury

Games designer and general interesting bloke James Wallis blogs about the game on the back of this year's Cadbury selection packs.

The winner was Present Drop, a clever tile-placing game for 2-4 players with some nice Eurogame overtones, simple enough for kids to understand but with enough strategy to be interesting for real games-players too. It was designed by Matt Green and Kevan Davis. You know Kevan. He did Urban Dead and Chore Wars.
A year on, and the selection box with the game on it is in UK shops. At Tesco it costs £1.50, which gets you about £3-worth of chocolate, a spiffy game and a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation as well. Which is, you have to admit, a heck of a deal.
At that price, I reckon we'll give it a go. It'll be appropriate at around the same time as Jacob Marley Esquire season comes around.

It's a bit early to be saying this, but since it's arisen -- towards Christmas our board gaming can be disrupted somewhat. Not only do people's other work, social and family commitments get in the way, but venues get clogged up with other events. From the start of December onwards, it's an especially good idea to look on the Board Silly Google Groups list to see who's planning to go.
