Play board games in Leamington tonight
I've checked with the Newbold Comyn Arms, and the reason they were closed last week was that they were getting refurbished. Everything is back to normal now and "looking beautiful".
So, it's board gaming there at 8pm.
I for one, am hoping for plentiful neon, and padded booths modelled after American cars.

Last night's relocated gaming
Six hardy gamers assembled at the Newbold Comyn Arms last night, only to find the lights out and the doors locked. So we relocated to the Cask and Bottle, which provided a perfectly acceptable gaming environment.
We played 6-player Locke and Key. Although it officially takes that many players, I think it suffers as a result.
We played 6 player Seven Wonders with all the expansions - which is a lot to keep track of.
We played a couple of rounds of Love Letter to fill the time while John E finished his pint.
John E has taken on the duty of finding out what's up at the Newbold.

I won't be there (getting some culture in Stratford). Neither will Gary (on holiday in Brittany) but it's likely someone else will.
Should you happen to play Risk Legacy, how about letting us all know how the board has changed? I can give posting rights to any regular, or just email me what happened.

Last night's gaming
Risk Legacy again, four out of five players being new.
Rhian won and added a major city to the board. The rest of us added minor cities, which makes it very likely that next time we play we'll open a new envelope of game bits.
'Vegas' was the light follow up. Warwickshire Brewery 'Golden Buds' was on tap.

Risk Legacy Rules
I would have benefited from having read the rules before playing.
If any of you want to -- look, they're here: http://www.hasbro.com/common/documents/dad2886d1c4311ddbd0b0800200c9a66/00D721465056900B10A16E11F8F54E7F.pdf
So far, we have not changed the rules by putting any stickers from the envelopes onto the rulebook.

Last night's gaming
5 gamers, willing to bear the indoor heat.
We started with La Boca - a light 3D block positioning game.
Then - at last - we cracked open Risk Legacy -- and it is good. Five of us have signed the back of the board. Ray has a major city on the board, permanently. The rest of us have minor cities on the board, also permanently.
Gratifyingly, it looks as if the game is geared up for allowing different players from game to game. It would be fine if the next game had entirely different players, indeed that would ensure plenty of us know the basics before things start to get silly.

Last night's gaming
We played strategic terraforming / building game Terra Mystica with five players.

Usual place, usual time - no word of a pub quiz this time.
John E said he wouldn't be there, but he gave me his big duffel bag o' games last week, so I'll bring that along and we'll see what treasures lie within.
Remember that semi-coop green energy game Stuart brought one week? I'd like to give that another go...
And Risk Legacy is still waiting to be broached.
Regulars: 50p, which is how we're approaching our 1000th pound spent on club games. As an extra special welcome to newcomers, they pay nothing.

Games at Avon Toys - Goodbye Kitty?
Avon Toys had the 7 Wonders expansion with 4 new wonders in it (for under £10). Straw poll of BoardSilly attendees two weeks ago was in favour of buying for the club.
They also have Castle Panic and some other new(ish) games.
Is it worth Gary paying a visit & spending some of the kitty?
Discuss online or at the pub tonight.

- Jacob Marley Esquire - if I can manage to gather together enough bits. Stuart still needs to see the economy model at work.
- Ghost Chase - had it years, but it had the wrong cards. I finally got around to asking Rio Grande for replacements, and now I have them. It's Scotland Yard with a ghost instead of a master criminal. It looks like a kids' game, but BGG suggests it's a 6/10 for kids and a 7/10 for adults. I'd just like to play it once before selling it, frankly.

Play board games in Rugby. Not tonight though.
Over on our Google Group, we got a nice email from our friends in Rugby:
I just joined this group to put a post up re Rugby on Board. Just to say hi, and that you would all be very welcome. There is a regular turnout of about 5 of us, at the Raglan every other Tuesday but with the opening of Rugby's own Friendly Local Game Store (Shadow Games) this is sure to lead to an increase in numbers and the potential for setting up some all day gaming on a weekend at some undefined future date...
Any day except Thursday, you have my permission to schlep up to Rugby for an extra gaming fix.

Board games or romance tonight?
I'm not sure about tonight -- I know the Newbold Comyn Arms is doing a special Valentine's Day menu tonight -- did anyone think to ask last week whether they had many bookings?
That said, it'd be a miserable couple who let a bunch of people playing Tigris and Euphrates in the corner spoil their romantic meal...
I probably won't make it tonight, but reply to this on the mailing list if you will do.

New Club Games?
I was in Cardiff on Saturday so popped in to Rules of Play in the Castle Arcade
http://rulescardiff.wordpr\ess.com/
I bought a few games for myself and saw a few for the club:
- 7 Wonders Cities - £20 - http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgameexpansion/111661/7-wonders-cities
The latest expansion to a club favourite.
- Gonzaga - £40 - http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/57163/gonzaga
Lay plastic multi-hex cities on a map of Europe - Looks very good & ticks my Tactics / Spatial Awareness / Hex Map of Europe boxes.
- Tempus - £15 - http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/17161/tempus (the Pro Ludo edition)
£15 for a Martin Wallace game? Bargain.
I did text Gary on the day to check that I would not empty the kitty but they are all still in the shrink wrap in case anyone has any objections to them as club games. In which case, my brother might be getting a surprise present on his birthday later this month.
See you tomorrow with the new shinys.

Play board games in Leamington Spa tonight
BoardSilly board games club meet tonight from 8pm at the Newbold Comyn Arms in Leamington Spa.
It's cold & wet & windy outside but the pub is warm & we have board games & card games.
I have recently enjoyed playing:
Republic of Rome
Innovations
7 Wonders
Locke And Key
Castles of Burgundy
Terra Mystica
Magic The Gathering
I'd also like try:
Pax Porfiriana
Or we could play Power Grid with a Windy Day Variant - green power plants can power one extra city than their printed value.
We ask for subs of 50p towards future purchases of more boardgames, unless it is your first visit, in which case it's free.
See you later,
John E
Addendum by John H - it looks lovely and sunny to me. But it'll be dark by the time gaming comes along. Last week five of us played CO², which was pretty remarkable, and I'd gladly play again.

Boardgames? Beer? Brilliant!
Despite the old adage, Always Avoid Alliteration, tonight I fancy playing:
Pete's Pax Porfiriana
or
Ray's Republic of Rome
If John H has Junta I may play that
See you at the Newbold Comyn Arms in Leamington Spa from 8pm,

Play board games in Leamington tonight
Once more I'm probably a no-show, but without even asking people, I'm certain there will be enough gamers at the Newbold Comyn Arms tonight to play at least one game. Perhaps something Father Christmas brought?
If you're the cautious type, check our discussion group to see if anyone's confirmed.
