A bit of a false start last night: with four people present, we started setting up Agricola. Then another person turned up, which was fine. Then a sixth person arrived, so Agricola went back in the box, and we split into two tables.
One table played Phoenicia. The other table played The Pillars of the Earth, with Gary arriving in time to become a fourth player.
Mark from Avon Games dropped by to say hello, and gave us the Seven Wonders Leaders expansion (for which we still need to pay!).
We play:
Settlers of Catan - Puerto Rico - Agricola - Condottiere - Ticket to Ride - Citadels - Torres - Shadows over Camelot - Race for the Galaxy - Formula De - Seven Wonders .. that kind of thing.
The club owns lots of games, and our members bring even more.
We meet:
Every Thursday - 8pm - Oak House Sports and Social Club, Leamington Spa
We welcome:
Everyone
We charge:
Nothing! But if you do become a regular you will need to join the Social Club

Come and play board games. Tonight at 8pm in the Newbold Comyn Arms Stables Bar
http://www.newboldcomynarms.co.uk/
Bring some board games & money for your beer & packet of crisps.
Feel free to come along even if you don't own any games and haven't played a board game since childhood, we're a friendly lot and will introduce you to the finest modern games.
I (Gary) won't be able to make it tonight, but John will be there and we've never had anyone turn up on their own before. In fact we had 12 people last week which made for a great evening with lots of choice of games to play.

Ascension expansions
We've enjoyed playing Ascension a few times. It's not a club game -- Gary bought it for himself.
We've noticed something interesting about the two expansions available. They're both complete games in their own right; or they can be combined with the original game, or each other.
Ascension: Return of the Fallen "is playable as a 2 player stand-alone game, or can be combined with Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer for an expanded game with up to six players"
Ascension: Storm of Souls "A complete 1-4 player game playable on its own or with other Ascension games! Combine with other Ascension games to play with up to 6 players!"

Tonight's gaming
A good turnout tonight.
One table played Power Grid, another played Galaxy Truckers and a third played Princes of Florence.
Power Grid took the whole evening, but the other two tables had time to join together for a filler of Risk Express - a quick and fun dice game.

Regulars, could someone make sure we have a good introductory game every week, then newcomers won't have to play something that makes their brain melt :)

Buying plans
Every so often, we find enough money in the kitty (saved up from all those 50 pences we collect) to make some purchases.
The tentative plan for the current balance is to spend it on:
Ghost Stories: A cooperative game where you battle Chinese ghosts.
Panic Station: Another coop game, apparently inspired by the film Alien, in which you collectively try to escape a space station infested by an infectious bodysnatching organism. One player (at first!) is hosting the parasite.
7 Wonders: Leaders: We've been enjoying 7 Wonders, and this expansion is getting a lot of praise, it seems.

FAQ
There is no FAQ, because the site is new and we've never received a question.
We do however have Answers To Questions You May Have, which serves much the same purpose. The link will always be up there in the top corner of the home page.

We're going bonkers with social media today. There's also a Facebook page. Its main purpose is to guide people here -- but it would nice if you could go there and "like" it, to help other people find it. We need 25 "likes" before we can give it a nice neat web address.
(Edit: achieved; the URL is now the neat and tidy http://www.facebook.com/BoardSillyLeam )

Welcome to the new home page
Hello.
We've created this blog mainly in order to have a home page with a reasonably easy address to remember, so we can put it on posters etc.
The origins of Board Silly Games Club are a little bit lost in the mists of time. We vaguely remember meeting in what was then Baroque -- now the Fox and Vivian -- well over five years ago. Since then we've drifted between venues, as places have closed or changed character.
Currently the Newbold Comyn Arms provides us a very suitable location. There's almost always plenty of room for us.
Attendance varies, but there's seldom fewer than four of us, and often ten or more; enough of us to split into two or three games. It's worth checking for posts on the Google Group on a Thursday afternoon, just to check.
